OCTOBER 15, 2014

This past week, I was honored to take part in one of the most incredible events this industry has seen. First Lady Michelle Obama invited several designers and various influencers from the industry to help her host a spectacular Fashion Education Workshop for 150 students from across the country who have shown an interest in fashion.

I was joined by a group of really amazing talent ranging from designers Diane Von Furstenberg and Narciso Rodriguez, to Jenna Lyons and Anna Wintour. We spent the day working with an incredible group of students who all showed an immense interest in learning about the various opportunities in the fashion industry, including construction, wearable technology, entrepreneurship and journalism. I had the pleasure of working directly with one young student, Natalya Koval, who is currently studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology. I mentored Natalya on construction, quality and execution. We went through a few rounds of sampling as well as advised her on fabric selection.

Natalya designed the navy dress that the First Lady wore to the workshop – it was a very gratifying experience!
